Field Experience

I have had a lot of field experience. I took the Introduction to the Education Profession class. In this class I had to participate in a 35 hour field experience. This consisted of me entering an 8th grade science class and sitting in for a total of 35 hours. I assisted the teacher in managing the classroom as well as helping students who needed extra assistance on an individual level. Upon completion of the 35 hours I had to submit a log of everything that I did while I was in the classroom. Below is a link to view my log and get an idea of the things I did while inside the classroom.

Another class I have taken was Social Issues in Education. This class really dove deep into the issues that are plaguing the educational system today. I found this class to be of great interest to me because a lot of these issues are things that I did not know were going on. I had to really research the issues which was a real eye opener. While also in the class I had create my Philosophy of Education. This made me question why I wanted to be a teacher and also what I believe the role of a teacher is. To view my philosophy as a whole please view the link below otherwise you can get a sense of what my philosophy is by viewing the screenshot below.

One of the other classes that I have take was Principles of Teaching in Learning. There were two major projects that I had complete. There was a case study in which I had to look into an issue I noticed during my 35 hour field experience. I discussed the issue of sleeping in class which was a huge problem that I observed in the classroom. I then had to relate the issue to some educational theorists and discuss how I thought they would solve the issue at hand. The other major project I had was a lesson plan and mini teach. For this project I had to create a lesson plan that corresponded to my subject area. I had to complete the lesson plan and then do a mini teach in the classroom where my classmates were my students. My lesson was about acids and bases. I brought in a variety of liquids for my classmates to dip litmus paper in to test if it was an acid or a base. They had a lot of fun testing everything out! This lesson was so much fun because it really taught me how to create a lesson plan and also how to implement it in a classroom. Underneath I will have links to access both my case study as well as my lesson plan.

Standard:
Completing the lesson plan in my Principals of Teaching and Learning class allowed me to meet INTASC standard #7. This standard states, "The teacher plans instruction based on knowledge of the subject matter, students, community, and curriculum goals." I met this standard because when I was preparing my lesson plan I had to investigate content standards for my age group as well as research the actually subject matter I was teaching. I then had to make my lesson appealing to my students while making sure that it stayed on track with what I was required to teach. I had to set a goal in my lesson plan as well.
